Neighbourhood Link Update – June 2024
A report of an attempted theft of a motorcycle was received having occurred in Markfield this week. It was reported that unknown persons have taken a motorcycle from the front driveway of a property in the late afternoon and then discarded it a short distance away. Officers were able to recover a second stolen vehicle that was used during this attempt.
If you a registered keeper of a motorcycle, please utilise the following tips to add additional security for your vehicle:
- Use a disc lock to help secure the front brake disk, or a grip lock to secure the brake and throttle controls. A D Lock would also assist in securing the front wheel to stop it being wheeled away.
- Thieves will often steal a bike by breaking the steering lock which enables them to wheel it away. Using a chain lock through the rear wheel, whilst securing the bike to something heavy, will provide additional deterrent.
- Installing a motorcycle kill switch.
- Property marking as much of your bike as possible will make it more challenging for criminals to sell parts on, making it less attractive to steal. This will also assist police with identifying parts and return recovered stolen bikes.
- Install a GPS locator – in the unfortunate event that your bike is stolen, having a GPS locator fitted will enable location tracking to assist in locating the motorcycle.
